-DPURIFY makes purify stop complaining about using bitfields
-DSPRMTEST forces the wv lib to always log the sprms that 
pass through it, handy for seeing sprms that are being used 
with the wrong len, 
rm chp.o decode_complex.o pap.o sep.o is all that needs to
be recompiled after a change like this in the Makefile
